Overview

Traveling soccer is known to have a higher level of competitiveness than recreational soccer. Any players considering making the jump to a traveling team should be made aware of the following:

  • Traveling soccer is significantly more expensive than recreational. It can incur costs from higher level coaching, more practice time and travel expenses.
  • There is no guarantee of playing time. The best players play.
  • There is an increased chance for high level development. Players looking to play in college and beyond should seriously consider joining a traveling team.
  • You will be required to try out and will be placed on a team according to ability.
  • Rules are generally more closely related to high school and college soccer.

Costs

Costs for Travel Soccer vary a great deal based upon how the teams wish to structure their Travel experience. The selection of practice fields, coaching salaries, uniform items (extras like bags, sweatshirts, etc), tournaments played, etc - all have an effect on the bottom line.

The number of players on a given team also affect the per player cost for each team. Obviously, a team with 18 players will pay less per player for the same configuration as a team that has 15 players. There are three additional players to split the cost with. Of course, the downside to having more players is the fact that there is also less playing time per player.

Figuring out the right configuration for a Select Travel team requires working with Club officers who understand how to structure team budgets. If you're thinking of forming a Travel team, make contact below. If you're thinking of joining an existing team, you will need to register for tryouts and will fit into the budget structure of the team you've been matched with.
