Recreational soccer is known to have a lower level of competitiveness than traveling soccer.  This is generally, but not always true. For players and families interested in a recreational team, here are the key characteristics:

  • Recreational soccer is very affordable if you are interested in joining the sport or playing as a way to cross-train for other sports.
  • Playing time is guaranteed. Every player who registers will play equally regardless of ability.
  • No tryouts are necessary to join a team. Players are randomly placed on teams unless they are joining with a parent who is willing to coach, a returning player and register before the guaranteed placement date, or they are on a Bring-a-Buddy program.
  • There are usually 1-2 practice-oriented evenings per week and 8 recurring weekly games (typically played on weekends), making recreation soccer easier on the family schedule.
  • There is not a travel requirement. Some seasons, we will play with other neighboring leagues (which can be a hoot!), but the travel requirement is typically no more than 30 minutes.
  • Team practices (days, times and locations) are determined by individual team coaches. The Club provides permits to accommodate coach's requests, but coaches are responsible for communicating with parents about when and where they will be holding practice. This should be done though each team Web site, at a minimum.

The Registration "Recreation Soccer" is not currently available.

What do we mean when we say "Small Sided Games?"

Small sided games are strongly recommended by US Youth Soccer. The format essentially means smaller fields and few players on the field at a time.

Small-sided games give kids more touches on the ball and tend to be more effective than a larger 11v11 sided game for the development of skill or accruing playing time.

The chart below shows what US Youth Soccer Recommends for which ages:
